Really a song for now but a song for the ages as well. I was calling myself and agnostic for a long while but Richard Dawkins’s work convinced me to come out as a fully fledged atheist. If God truly did exist he would have dumped us millennia ago due to the appalling things that are done in his name.

I consider my beliefs spiritual, but not of any orthodox religion. When I use the term God, the word is just a commonality. I have a hard time picturing some dude with long white beard on a throne up in heaven somewhere, dictating this or that or sending his son on a Suicide Mission for humanity. I understand Atheism, but I have fallen to such depths of depravity on the earth, that my salvation and grace to be alive and sane is by this ‘god’ …

But really you saved yourself from that. Maybe the spirit is you, not something outside of you? I think humans are so much more exciting and wonderous than any of the gods they have imagined. My spiritual feelings are based in the awe I feel for the incredible complexity of this planet’s systems, for the natural world, past and present, our own bodies, human achievement, the stars and planets out there.

Yes, I am in complete agreement with you, this spirit is within me, and outside..These beliefs are so hard to describe for me. I open my eyes when I wake, and I see light hitting the surfaces, changes every sec, sound changes all in flux..I am part of it and in it..Sometimes, I think I should use the term ‘it” instead of god. Like ‘the Great IT”
