Cat Claw (the kills cover) for Copper Cranes

Cat Claw.

Alright so… Copper Cranes and I have similar tastes in music, being
groups associated with Jack White. For awhile I had been searching
for a song by a group called ‘the Kills’ who shares the same front-person
as the group called the Dead Weather. The artist’s name is Alison Mosshart.
I have felt for awhile the Jack brings out something edgy in her that
I do not hear in “the Kills.” Copper Cranes suggested to listen to the early releases.
So I listened to their first EP called “Black Rooster.”
All I needed to hear was the first track which is Cat’s Claw.
Here is the little preface disclaimer.
I first heard this song 9 hours ago.
I got to know as well as I could.
Nine hours and ten tracks later, I have my version at Light Speed
completing the song in a little over 2 minutes.
The kills do it in three.
What a strange respect I have for them now.

(lyrics approximately)
It’s time to stand on top of fingers from the bell
Tell me sugar how you felt now, come on sugar, tell now
Can’t stand your face until it took off
I wouldn’t give a fuck but the love here is such a long walk

If this all goes well you won’t have nothing
So tell you dead wrong, dead wrong and now you’re long gone
Hang out for minute and re-think
Question, tell me what she’d done just one, ’cause I can’t see nothing

So, one, two and
You got it, I want it, you got it, I want it, you got it, I want it
You got it, I want it, you got it, I want it, you got it, I want it

Got my hand caught in a cat claw, scream
On everyone’s that time looks around they’re talking trees
You know never know who’s coming, might easy be me, you know
Give up for my love, cause that’s too much, fuck

So, one, two and
You got it, I want it, you got it, I want it, you got it, I want it
You got it, I want it, you got it, I want it, you got it, I want it

It’s time to stand on top of fingers from the bell
Tell me sugar how you felt here, come on sugar, tell now
Can’t stand your face until it took off
I wouldn’t give a fuck but the love here is such a long walk

So, one, two and
You got it, I want it, you got it, I want it, you got it, I want it
You got it, I want it, you got it, I want it, you got it, I want it

You got it, I want it, you got it, I want it, you got it, I want it
You got it, I want it, you got it, I want it, you got it, I want it
You got it, I want it, you got it, I want it, you got it, I want it
You got it, I want it, you got it, I want it, you got it, I want it

  1. Ted you are awesome! Oh man, I can’t believe you did all this in nine hours. You are amazing, great cover of The Kills. I love how you made it your own! You are so very cool and very fun! I LOVE IT! Thank you for the mention, so kind of you! I’m smiling I really glad that you found something that spoke to you. Their earlier stuff is some of their best, agreed I really like what she is doing with Jack. I think Jack really showcases her talent as a singer and performer. But you know how I feel about him. Thank you for doing this for me, *smiling again*! Hope you’re having a great evening, I want you to know that you made my evening fantastic! ~ Mia ❤

    • I am laughing. See, you are helping satiate my want to have attention for the music I do.
So glad you dig it. That first EP is raw and real. They must have wanted to grab the attention.
It is not easy to come up with perfect songs and tracks time after time. Jack White
has come up with probably over 300 song or more thru various groups of his, that
are top notch. Damn! Jamie Hince is really strong, and it shows through in all their early stuff.
You have made my evening nice as well. Hooray! I am pleased that it sounds like my take on the tune.
I believe that is what I am supposed to accomplish with covers. 🙂

      • Ted, I believe you’re right, a cover should be your spin. Otherwise why cover it at all, if you’re going to parrot it in its entirety, what would be the point? That would be kind of boring if you asked me. Thank you again, so fun and such a pleasure to listen to you! ~ Mia 🙂
