Savin’ Grace
I want to drop a few notes about my selection of the song.
Have you ever had a period of your life that was so devastating that it required a soundtrack?
I did. I usually do not discuss my experiences of being mentally ill. I will now.
I have a thought disorder. At one point, I was lucky to be able to even zip up my winter coat.
Terrified is a good description. A doctor had me leave my house every morning to see
a nurse who helped me take my medication. The problem was, that I had to take a bus.
I would hallucinate two or three “imaginary” buses before the real one would show up.
I would make a list of all the objects that I needed to take, a check-list so I
would not forget anything. One of the objects was a bag of marbles. I would hate
to lose my marbles. I digress. The other was cd of music by Tom Petty which
included this song. Years went by, and every morning I would listen to this tune.
You may never know the amount of gratitude I have for that doctor, that nurse,
and this tune. My mind was blown, and now it isn’t. So listen to this, put your
head in my strangely fitting boots. Enjoy.

With an intro like that, how could I fail to listen?

You know when you open the door
You begin to heal
Maybe not all at once
But those pictures in your mind start to get smaller
Than one day when your running
You begin to slow down
It’s all about you
So that face you saw
Is now the one lookin back at you
So the grace
Is now a savin
That’s for you my friend

I couldn’t help myself
It goes like that sometimes with me
It doesn’t take much to inspire me
When the circumstances are rite

Wholeheartedly impressed your list of essential items included a music cd. Even more impressed you make music and share it here 🙂 Your introduction encouraged me to take a tangential trip through youtube which ended with bill callahan’s diamond dancer. Thank you for the inspiration, much regard and keeping making music.
