So around the year 1986, I was a lil nerd kid. I believed
that I was be-speckled with acne. I ran into a young
lady who was from Arkansas. Her name being Teresa Wiles.
I was mesmerized by her. She gave me a mixtape. Yeah,
there were tapes back then. Anyway, it had a lot of
post-punk and new wave bands on it. Once of them being
the Cure, this was before the Head on the Door LP.
Before they signed to a major label. So yeah, I
was a conformist to non-conformity. But in the
80’s all the fashion was from hell. I guess
there is some sort of emo, goth, whatever now.
So our theme music was the LoveCats. So there
is a recording I just did of that tune that you can hear above.
So now that music had redefined my life.
I engaged myself with artistic people.
One of them is the artist Kathleen Gatliffe,
who did the image of of me seen above,
Ted at age 16. I was drawing feverishly.
What a fun time. I hope you all enjoy the song
and Kathy’s art ( we used to call her guido,
not sure why.) I felt like sharing because that time
period was really defining for me. Okay, Next in Group?

  1. to say I love The Cure would be an understatement… and I enjoyed listening to your version too… !!

it’s always so interesting to see ourselves through other people’s perspective, right? this is a wonderful portrait of you done by the other artist, it’s so full of energy… you hair looks wild, much like Robert Smith 🙂

    • Thank you for listening to my take on the song. I did a folk version of it, running the bass notes on the bottom strings while playing the chord structure at the same time. I did not try to sing high pitches as Smith does, my voice is shot from too many years of smoking, I lost that end of my range. Singing that low makes the song unhappy, and moody. Which is really funny because the Cure is known for that, just not on this song.
