Happy Hour (cover)

Happy Hour!

In 1985 I was 15 years old, and dependent on college radio
and underground record stores, yes vinyl, for new music.
So on my birthday that year, I grabbed my sister’s Schwinn 10 speed bicycle
and rode several miles to get to the music store, unbeknownst to my father.
Arrived to find the host of my favorite radio program selling lp’s.
This song, by a group named
the HouseMartins,
was available as an import.
I am not certain if I purchased it, but I am grateful for other
musicians from across the great pond on that little Isle,
who made my teenage years livable.
I am certain that my Dad was unnerved by my absence.
So here is my take on the tune.
