“Ugolino and His Sons” by Jean Baptiste Carpeaux (1827-1875)

These are some photos that I took of this great sculpture on the Indiana University Campus.

    • Yes, it truly beautiful. I first saw it when I was 17 years old. I was with a friend. Now years and years later, I realize that Ugolino looks like my friend, and at age 17 I looked like one of the sons. Strange isn’t it? That this was made in the 19th century? Years before I was even alive? and it looks like me and my friend?

    • Yes. I really need to look up the piece in an Art History book. I may be wrong, tho, my recollection is that the circumstances of Ugolino is that he is trying to decide which son to kill, and perhaps to eat, to feed the other kids.
